Admission Criteria

To qualify for admission, applicants must satisfy the following:

  • International transfer applicants should be in good academic standing at the last accredited institution attended and have earned at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale in all college-level studies.
  • A minimum of 12 college-level credits completed – if fewer than 12 credits have been earned, the student must meet the freshman application criteria.
  • Transfer students will need to submit transcripts from all institutions at which credit has been attempted.

Steps to Apply

  1. Apply online for admission at IndianaState.edu/apply
  2. To complete your application, you will need to submit a $65 (USD) non-refundable application fee. The application fee is payable by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or check or international money order payable to Indiana State University. Submit the application fee to the Office of Admissions, Indiana State University. 
  3. Submit unofficial transcripts.  Indiana State University offers in-house credential evaluation.  The credential evaluation process can take several weeks to complete. We strongly urge you to begin the process as early as possible. Your application will not be complete until we receive your transcripts.
  4. Submit Proof of English ProficiencyOfficial TOEFL (code 1322)IELTS, or ELS scores (unless exempt) must be sent directly from the testing center to Indiana State University. For important information, see Required Scores.
  5. Submit a copy of your passport in the “supplemental materials” tab in the online admission application. If studying in the U.S., a copy of your current I-94, F-1 or J-1 visa, and I-20 or DS-2019 is also required. If you are currently in the U.S. but not studying, a copy of the applicable visa must also be submitted.
  6. File your FAFSA (if applicable.)  When applying for federal financial aid with FAFSA, you must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or an eligible non-citizen.

NOTE: Undocumented students don't qualify for federal financial aid and are not able to submit a federal FAFSA. 

You are considered an eligible non-citizen if you meet ONE of the following criteria:

  • You are a U.S. permanent resident with an Alien Registration Card (I-551).
  • You are a conditional permanent resident with an I-551C card.
  • You have an Arrival Departure Record (I-94) from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) with any of the following designations:
    • refugee
    • asylum granted.
    • parolee
    • victim of human trafficking
    • T-Visa holder
    • Cuban-Haitian entrant

To ensure full consideration, application materials must be received before the following dates. Early application is encouraged for scholarship considerations.

Fall semester: June 1  
Spring semester: October 15

Applications received after these dates will be accepted and every attempt made to ensure consideration for the desired semester or term.
